Introducing: Clothed by God – Body and Spirit

Note from the Editor to the Friends of Five Aspects Ministries:

The pastures of the wilderness drip, And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing. 13The meadows are clothed with flocks and the valleys are covered with grain; They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Psalm 65:12–13 (NASB95)

The original content of Clothed by God – Body and Spirit was developed for a Wisdom House Conference hosted by Barbara Mouser in 2012 titled, Clothing Body and Spirit. The conference was the second thematically themed teaching given by Barbara Mouser, the first being Seasons of God back in 2009. For two days preceding my attendance at this conference, I was hard at work helping the family lay sod at our newly built lake house. For days, I had been part of transforming the front yard from a swatch of reddish-brown to one of luxurious green. The morning before I left for the conference, with coffee and Bible in hand, I had made my way to the pier for my quiet time. From my perch, I could look back and see the newly laid carpet of green leading up to the house. When I looked out past the lake, my view was of a hill that was covered in cattle and wildflowers. I was led to wonder and worship by the sights. I felt that the hills adorned in green and in cattle were singing and bringing glory to God. Then that very day at the conference we talked about clothing language and how God uses it to teach about His creation (Psalm 65:12–13). Of course, it was totally in sync with what I had experienced that very morning, and from that moment I was hooked. The clothing language in Scripture came alive for me, and I love it.

Since 2012, this wonderful teaching has only existed in the form of conference notes from that weekend. I have always wanted to develop it into a full-fledged Bible study, but other “more important” projects have up until this time kept it on the back burner. However, the past few months have afforded me the time to labor over this work, and with Barbara’s full blessing, I have developed it into what it is now. I present to you the second in our Thematic Bible Study set: Clothed by God–Body and Spirit.  More thematic works are currently being developed and will be added to the series as the Lord wills. In the meantime, I hope you all will consider learning the language of clothing in Scripture.

Introducing Men, Women & Marriage: Seven Biblical Principles

Introducing Men, Women & Marriage

JAN 27, 2025

Note from the Editor

For the last half of 2024 I have been happily working behind the scenes putting this work together. The structure and core materials of Men, Women & Marriage: Seven Biblical Principles is based upon the original Seven Principles of Sexuality that was released several years ago. The purpose behind the Seven Principles of Sexuality was to boil the issue of sexuality in Scripture down to its basic principles in a short, truncated form. Men, Women & Marriage: Seven Biblical Principles has been created to put flesh and adornment back on the bones of the principles.

Men, Women & Marriage is a new, stand-alone work, and I think that it turned out very well. The teachings are clear and succinct, and at the same time, they are in-depth and very meaty. The study builds to a glorious crescendo in the seventh lesson and the conclusion. I earnestly encourage everyone to do the work to make it to the end of the book. It is worth it!

The structure of the book is based on seven essential principles that we believe undergird a biblically sound theology of human sexuality. The principles are equality, difference, unity, sin & the curse, law & judgment, salvation & grace, and glory. The book has one lesson for each principle, and each lesson is divided into four parts. The study can reasonably be completed in seven to nine weeks (the duration dependent upon how the Introduction and Conclusion are handled), but the pace can also be slowed down and lengthened per the need of the individual or group. Each lesson builds the essential ideas and vocabulary needed. Therefore, essential words are pulled out and defined in the sidebars. In addition, most of the Scripture that is referenced is also included in the sidebars. While we encourage everyone to look up every Scripture reference in their own bibles, having them printed and readily available alongside the text is also very valuable.

I have also created a Leader’s Guide to go along with the study. The Leader’s Guide has the same pagination as the student workbook for ease of use, and it contains answers, suggestions, and help for the questions asked. However, this is the first edition of a new book. Therefore, feedback is requested. Those of you who end up leading a group through this study, please let me know how it goes and if you have any questions or suggestions to make the Leader’s Guide more useful for others.

Men, Women & Marriage is, in my humble opinion, an invaluable resource. My prayer is that you all will be edified, encouraged, and strengthened by the work, and that you’ll continue the work and take it out into your communities and plant seeds wherever you go.

Matt McDuff’s Five Aspects of Man group in Washington state.

The Five Aspects of Man collection is complete! Although integrally related, each work stands on its own as they were developed for different audiences. Read the descriptions below in order to understand the importance of each work and how you might be able to use them in your own life and ministry.

The Five Aspects Theology of Man is a theology textbook written for leaders and thinkers. Based upon the five aspects model, this book delves deep into Scriptures and develops a clear and extensive theology of both biblical masculinity and corresponding femininity. This is a premium steak dinner to feast upon.

The Five Aspects of Man 2nd Edition is a comprehensive Bible study that can be worked through individually or in groups and is perfect for men’s discipleship classes. The Five Aspects of Man breaks the major Biblical and theological concepts down into 15 lessons, each of which are broken down into five smaller units that include questions that help understand and apply the content.

A leader’s guide is also available for this study.

The Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Men is a more simplified version of the Five Aspects of Men Bible study geared specifically toward younger men—anywhere from late junior high to early college years. The Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Men teaches major Biblical and theological concepts in 20 simple lessons which include both concept building and application questions.

Five Aspects of Man – Second Edition

JANUARY 16, 2024

Letter from the Editor

In January 2023, Bryan and I hosted Bill and Barbara Mouser at our lake house to make plans for the future of Five Aspects Ministries. Due to Bill’s prolonged fight against leukemia, we all felt that time was of the essence, and much work needed to be done to prepare the ministry to keep moving forward. We all met again in March of 2023 to solidify some of the plans made. In April of 2023, I drove up to meet with Bill and Barbara to get some important documents signed and to make more plans. At this time, we were working on putting the final touches on the Five Aspects Theology of Man book that was staged to come out in August of 2023. During this meeting, we decided our next project was to get the Five Aspects of Man Bible study updated. We were supposed to meet again in May 2023, but all of our plans were changed when Bill’s health took a drastic turn for the worse, and by the 20th of that same month, he left us to be with the Lord. Everything came to a halt, and we celebrated the life of our dearest friend.

All the planning and preparations of the first half of the year enabled Bryan and me to take the baton from Bill and Barbara and keep the ministry moving forward in the second half of the year. Five Aspects Theology of Man came out as scheduled in August, and then I started to work on producing Five Aspects of Man 2nd Edition. Nothing new needed to be penned to create this book. Bill and Barbara had already written the materials. The materials just needed to be fit and formatted for this Bible study. Following Bryan’s lead and working with Steve Ramey and Lee Bossert, I have been able to adapt the material to this present format. This book is indeed a second edition. While much of William Mouser’s material from the first edition remains and while the core of the book hasn’t changed, the amount of additional material developed by William and Barbara since the book’s first edition was released in 1998 and again in 2012 is considerable. This new 2nd edition of the Five Aspects of Man is a great compilation of the Mouser’s teachings on biblical sexuality.

I am deeply honored and humbled to make this project a reality even in the midst of our great loss. To bring this work to print at the end of such a whirlwind year is really a testimony of God’s great grace towards this ministry. He has been taking care of all of us every step of the way. His mercies are indeed new every morning. Great is His faithfulness. As we open the door to the New Year with faith-filled hearts and new plans, we—Bryan, Barbara, and I and all the Five Aspects Team—are all continuing to work together for God’s great glory. We pray and ask that you consider investing in the Five Aspects of Man 2nd Edition for your own personal growth and as a tool to minister in the communities (domains) where the Lord has placed you.

Product Information

Five Aspects of Man 2nd Edition is a Bible study that can be used for individual study or for group study. It is perfect for men’s discipleship classes. The study consists of an introduction and fifteen chapters. Each chapter is divided into five parts. Ideally, this study can be completed within a semester’s time if one entire chapter is covered in a week. The five-part Bible study helps break the materials into manageable sections throughout the week. Or, if desired, you can throw the semester framework out the window and just take it one section at a time, moving at a slower pace. Regardless of your pace, the goal is to finish! All five aspects are essential to understanding biblical masculinity.

Introducing Seasons of God – Spirals of Life (2nd Edition)

Introducing Seasons of God – Spirals of Life (2nd Edition)

October 1, 2023

A Letter to the Friends of Five Aspects Ministries from the Editor:

Seasons of God—Spirals of Life was first published in 2009 and presented by Barbara Mouser at a women’s conference. I attended the conference, and the teaching profoundly affected me and the way I approach Bible study. Seasons of God—Spirals of Life is a thematic Bible study that looks at the theme of seasons, specifically the language of seedtime and harvest, from Genesis to Revelation. The study develops 26 distinctive “Portraits of God,” which include: the Creator of the Seasons, the Landlord of Israel, the Lord of the Harvest, the True Vine, the Grain that Fell, and the First Fruit from the Dead. Practical application includes learning how to give and live life in harmony with God’s seasons for you, your family, and His world. Learn to worship God more articulately and profoundly by learning the language of seasons that He wonderfully develops in His Word. This second edition contains the original Preface and a new Preface from the author.

The first edition was written for women’s ministry. This second edition of Seasons of God—Spirals of Life has been adapted for a more general audience. It can still be used for women’s ministry, but it also can be deployed as a study tool for use in co-ed classes, Sunday school classes, home study groups, and for individual study. Our reasoning for this change is that we believe that thematic Bible study is an invaluable tool for learning the whole counsel of God, and yet it is rarely taught or presented in the Church. We are passionate about teaching Bible themes, and we want this work to be nimbler for use within the Church. This work is the first in our Thematic Bible Study Series that we are currently developing. More thematic works are currently in progress and will be added to the series as the Lord wills. In the meantime, I hope you all will consider learning the language of Seasons in Scripture.

Introducing Five Aspects Theology of Man

Five Aspects Theology of Man

AUGUST 1, 2023

A Letter to the Friends of Five Aspects Ministries from the Editor:

The eulogy for William Mouser’s service was delivered by Pastor Tim Bayly of the New Geneva Academy and founder/contributor for Warhorn Media. His words were an ardent tribute to the life and ministry of a great man, but the thing that stood out to me the most was his summary of Father Bill’s ministry strategy, which was largely based upon his time in the Marines. The strategy was and is clear: go to where there is a hole in the wall—where the blood is being shed—and stand there and defend. Pastor Bayly rightly discerned that this is exactly what William and Barbara Mouser have been doing for decades. Issues of gender and sexuality are the place where the warfare has been waged most fiercely and where the most bloodshed and destruction have occurred. Regrettably, it is also the place where the most important battles have been lost. (For a more detailed analysis of the importance of William Mouser’s life and ministry, please use the following link: https://warhornmedia.com/2023/07/03/three-deaths-sharon-dykstra-bill-mouser-and-tim-keller-2/

For instance, in June the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, convened for their annual meeting. Major issues discussed concerned the ordination of women as pastors and how the denomination would address the issues of sexual abuse within its churches. Issues of gender and sexuality dominated the discussion, important decisions were made, and a rift was widened. During this same time period, more than 6,000 congregations in the United Methodist church, the second largest Protestant denomination in the United States, left the denomination to form a new one. The schism resulted because of the disagreement of theology and the role of the LGBTQ people in the church. The same is true of so many conversations happening in our churches and in our culture at large. Sex and gender issues dominate the headlines and the conversation, and though many in the Church are taking a stand, the church at large is losing traction and surrendering sacred truths hand over fist. I would wager to say that in general, most of us who claim to be Christians have no idea what is truly at stake in this conversation of biblical sexuality. In addition, I also think that very few of us truly know or understand what Scripture truly says about gender and sexuality. Biblical illiteracy is growing at a phenomenal rate, and I cannot help but think at times that we are doomed.

It is into this state of affairs that I now announce the release of a new book: Five Aspects Theology of Man. I have personally advocated for the writing of this book for years, and I actually met some resistance from Bill and Barbara when I pitched it to them. The main reason for the resistance was the perception, and I think that they may be very correct in their perception, that “no one would read it.” This might be true. However, my argument was that this work needs to exist, to be extant, whether anyone ever reads it or not. I hold to my opinion. This work needs to exist, and the Church needs it now more than ever. I have personally worked on editing and formatting this book for over a year. I have read and reread it several times, and I must say that it is by far the best book the Mousers have ever written, and it is by far the most significant theology book that I have ever read (and I have read more than my fair share)!

Five Aspects Theology of Man is Five Aspects Ministry’s definitive theological statement concerning biblical masculinity in the Bible which ultimately leads to a clear theology concerning femininity and sexuality in general as well. This theology of masculinity is based upon the way language is used in Scripture, thus meaning that since God reveals Himself as a Father, Christ as the Son and Bridegroom, Israel as the Wife of God, and the Church as the Bride of Christ, these gendered roles, titles, and ideas actually mean something. Instead of changing the gendered language to conform to our current cultural trends, this theology keenly focuses in on the gendered language and shows how it is foundational to the Biblical Narrative and Orthodox Christianity and how it needs to be clearly articulated and adamantly defended. The Five Aspects Theology of Man is the essential articulation and the clarion defense of biblical sexuality that the Church desperately needs. God created men to be men, and men are called to live as men as fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, warriors, servants, disciples, priests, leaders, and kings. Masculinity is necessarily different from femininity and all its corresponding features. Biblical sexuality is the beautiful and complimentary combining of the two. As in all the Five Aspects materials, the teaching on masculinity is organized by the Five Aspects model. The Five Aspects of Man are: Lord of the Earth, Husbandman, Savior, Sage, and Glory of God. Each aspect is studied three times: as God created it, as sin marred it, and as Christ has and is redeeming it.

The Five Aspects Theology of Man, to be clear, is a comprehensive theology. The target audience is primarily for leaders in the church, those on the front lines defending the flock. Yet, this work is truly for all students of the Bible who are seeking to understand what the Scriptures teach about sexuality and gender. It is truly worth every minute it exacts in the reading.

Introducing New Editions of the Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Man (20th Anniversary)

Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Man – Second Edition (20th Anniversary)

APRIL 17, 2023

A Letter to the Friends of Five Aspects Ministries from the Editor:

The Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Men has been in print since 2003. Like the other works Five Aspects Ministries has in print, an update in the files and formatting of this book was required. I have spent the last month pouring over the content of this book, and I have come to the same conclusion for this work as I did for the recent release of the 2nd edition of the Five Aspects of Femininity for Young Women that came out in February: this work is EXCELLENT, and this is an understatement.

The Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Men adroitly navigates the modern minefield of sexual insanity and clearly teaches what God has to say about sexuality and manhood in a way that is accessible for young men. In every aspect, the gospel is preached, and discipleship is commenced. It is an essential tool in the discipleship of young men for Christ, and it should be part of every Christian young man’s training for life and ministry. If the young men and the men who lead them will actually apply themselves to this work, complete it, and understand it, they will never think or be the same again. My prayer is that you will all read this work and deploy it within your spheres of influence and beyond. The Church needs this resource now more than ever.

I will sign-off here and leave you with the following from the new preface to the 20th Anniversary edition because it says what I have to say better than I could say it myself.

In Christ,
Kristine Vermillion

Dear Student,

In four months, this course for young men will be 20 years old. Looking over the preface I wrote in July of 2003, I find nothing in it that has changed. On the other hand, what the world thinks about the sexual identity of men and women has changed beyond recognition. If you described today's notion of sexuality to someone twenty years ago, they would surely think you were mad.

In a word, no one knows what a man is; no one knows what a woman is. The most recent member of the U.S. Supreme Court claims she cannot define what a woman is. In 2022, The Oxford and Cambridge Dictionaries both amended their definitions of man and woman to include anyone who identifies as man or woman.

Indeed, one-fifth of the 21st Century is now history, and sex has morphed into dozens of increasingly murky, bizarre, and fluid forms. In modern terms, manliness and womanliness have become derelict ideas. However, the manliness and womanliness one finds in the Bible, taught and defended by orthodox Christians for millennia, have not changed since the day the words of the Bible were first penned. Five Aspects of Masculinity for Young Men provides you with an overview of its subject: man the male as God created him; man the male as he is corrupted and cursed; man the male as he is redeemed in Christ.

Introducing New Editions of the Five Aspects of Femininity for Young Women Bible Study

Five Aspects of Femininity for Young Women Bible Study – Second Edition

FEB 8, 2023

Note from the editor to the Friends of Five Aspects Ministries:

The Five Aspects of Femininity for Young Women and the associated Leader’s Guide have been in print since 2000. Except for some editing and a reprint in 2001, the work has remained untouched and in print without hiccups. Now, it had been our plan all along to update and refresh this work, but it kept getting pushed to the back burner. However, late in 2022, due to updates in publishing technology, the print file was no longer publishable, and necessity bore down on us. Updating the Five Aspects of Femininity for Young Women became a priority.

I have poured through the pages of this material for the past several weeks, reading, editing, and reformatting every page. And you know what I found? The material is excellent! The content is on point and particularly relevant now—even twenty years later. The original team that adapted the Five Aspects of Woman material for this younger audience really knew what they were doing.

The biggest change is the update to the cover to make it look like the daughter of the Five Aspects of Women. Over six years ago, I showed our family photographer the cover of the Five Aspects of Woman and told her I needed pictures for the cover of the young woman’s version. Could she help? A few weeks later, these pictures arrived in my inbox. I do not think my friend had ever done the Five Aspects, but I think she “nailed” it. The fact that the dress of the girl in the picture is white all the way through, I think, shows an understanding beyond her understanding—a special grace from God.

I humbly submit this work to you for consideration. I personally led a few groups of high school girls through it back in the early 2000s when my husband and I volunteered with our church’s youth group ministry. I remember those times fondly, and most of those young women are now wives and mothers with daughters of their own, and we are all still friends. Now that my own girls are in junior high and high school, I am thinking it is time to return to this work and use it as a very valuable tool in the discipleship of the lovely young ladies in my life and their friends. I hope that you will do the same.

Sincerely,
Kristine Vermillion
